Connecticut Family Gives Up Shelter Dog Just One Week After Adoption, Saying He’s “Too Much”

Connecticut Family Gives Up Shelter Dog Just One Week After Adoption, Saying He’s “Too Much”

Bo, like every other shelter pup, dreamed of nothing more than being loved by a family of his own.

Everything seemed to be falling into place. His adopters completed the interviews, came for a meet and greet, and eventually welcomed him into their home. Bo was ready to begin a brand new chapter, and his tail couldn’t wag fast enough.

But that joy didn’t last long.

Only a week later, his new family brought him back, saying he was “too much.” Just like that, Bo was once again without a home. And heartbreakingly, this was already the second time in his young life he had been rejected.

Bo’s Bo’s Painful Journey Story

Bo wasn’t picked up as a stray and taken to the shelter. He once had a home, though the details remain unclear. This yellow Labrador Retriever mix was discovered abandoned outside, tied up, with an embedded collar cutting into his neck.

So, Bo already understood all too well what it meant to be unwanted.

When he first arrived at the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Connecticut,he finally felt something he had been missing for far too long: love. The staff surrounded him with care, kindness, and affection, and Bo embraced every bit of it.

He underwent treatment for heartworms and handled it bravely. On top of that, Bo even had a personal groomer, Aimee, who gave him a fresh look while he patiently waited for a family.

When the day finally came, Bo was overjoyed. He greeted his adopters with paws wide open, and they seemed to bond right away.

It felt like his story was headed toward the happy ending he deserved. But that hope was crushed far too quickly.

Just seven days later, Bo was back at the shelter. His family said he had “too much” energy and didn’t give him the time he needed to adjust.

The news left both Bo and the shelter staff devastated. After all the support and preparation they had provided, the family decided to give up on him.

“We ask them to come back and do multiple visits just to ensure they understand the responsibilities that come with adopting,” the Connecticut shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

Even with that guidance, everything fell apart.

“And after all that time, energy and visits – Bo was returned after a week of being home. Why? Too much energy,” they added.

Still Looking For His Forever Family

Bo has never seemed so sad. Since being returned months ago, he has shut down emotionally, and shelter life has only made things worse for him.

Right now, his caregivers hope to find a home where Bo can be the only pet, at least while he settles in.

“Bo needs to be the only pet at first because he needs to decompress from being at the shelter. Maybe overtime he could live with another dog but not now,” the shelter states.

Even after everything, one thing hasn’t changed: Bo’s heart is still full of love. He greets everyone he meets with warmth and would make a loyal companion once he finds his forever home.

Bo likes children and everyone he has met at the shelter,” the shelter concluded.

Good luck, Bo. You deserve all the love in the world.
