This is the story of one senior dog in California, who, after collapsing in someone’s yard, was given a second chance at life thanks to the kindness of rescuers.
Found Curled Up On A Mop
The team at Hope for Paws received a call from a homeowner who had noticed an elderly stray dog lying in his yard. According to him, the poor pup had been darting in and out of traffic before finally giving up and collapsing from exhaustion.
The man kindly allowed the rescuers onto his property, where they spotted the frail dog resting on top of an old mop. The area was a bit difficult to access, but they managed to carefully slip a leash around her neck.
The senior pup, later named Pipa, was finally safe and about to get the chance at life she so desperately deserved.
What struck the rescuers was that even in her weakened state, Pipa wagged her tail the whole time, almost as if she knew that her suffering was finally coming to an end.
No one could say how long she had been fending for herself, but one thing was clear: she never should have had to endure so much.
As she settled in the car, her rescuer received another call—this time about a cat in trouble. And so, Pipa’s rescue turned into something even bigger.
An Unexpected Second Rescue
On the way back, the rescuer noticed a stray cat in urgent need of help. With limited supplies on hand, he had to improvise. He offered the cat some food, which she eagerly accepted despite her fear.
Hunger won out over hesitation, and soon the little feline walked right into the kennel for a proper meal. Just like that, she too was safe and ready to head to the shelter.
Though their time together in the car was brief, the two strays—dog and cat—were about to start brand-new chapters in life. Once at the facility, both were given warm bubble baths to wash away the dirt and discomfort of life on the streets.
Pipa, especially, seemed to melt into the care of her rescuers. Despite everything she had endured, she still had a spark of trust left in her heart, a clear sign that she was ready to heal.
Unfortunately, a veterinary exam revealed an underlying spinal injury, and she required hospitalization. But thanks to her gentle nature and resilience, her recovery looked promising.
After treatment, she was welcomed into a foster program with Lionel’s Legacy, where she received ongoing care and the promise of a permanent home once she was strong enough.
