Sure, when it comes to our beloved furry companions, we all know that human food and table scraps are usually off limits. Okay, I’ll admit that sometimes it’s tough to resist those pleading eyes begging for just one bite. But, for the most part, the rule is a big NO.
Lucy, a fifteen-year-old dog from Tennessee, doesn’t face that restriction anymore.
Recently, her mom decided that leftovers are officially allowed and Lucy can have them all. But the real reason for this choice is heartbreaking, and it touches everyone who hears it.
Why Leftovers Became Part Of Her Meals

Amber Snyder, from Tennessee, enjoyed a lifetime of joy with her sweet pup, Lucy. Their story began in Indiana when Amber came across Lucy roaming the streets after being abandoned by her original family.
From that moment on, the two were inseparable. They made countless memories together, including fun camping trips, hikes, and adventures. Back in her younger years, Lucy was also an impressive frisbee player.
Then she reached her senior years, and one vet visit changed everything.
In a heartbreaking TikTok video, Amber showed Lucy enjoying leftover pasta for lunch for one very painful reason: she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, so food rules no longer mattered.
“When your dog has terminal cancer, so we don’t have rules anymore,” Amber wrote in the video.
Lucy was given the diagnosis of oral fibrosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer with very few options left. Sadly, it’s only a matter of time before she has to say her final goodbye and cross the rainbow bridge.

Crushed by the news, Amber and her husband, Mike, decided not to spend their time grieving early. Instead, they promised to make Lucy’s remaining days as special as possible.
“My sweet Lucy Bear has fibrosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. We don’t really have any options. My heart is in a million pieces right now, but my priority is spoiling this baby rotten for as long as we are blessed enough to have her,” Amber wrote in an Instagram post.
Living Life To The Fullest In Her Final Days

How do you say goodbye to the dog you love the most? And, even more, is there really a right way to do it?
Amber knew these were questions with no answers, so instead of getting stuck in sorrow, she chose to take action. She and Mike made a plan to give Lucy all of her favorite experiences in the time she had left.

Along with her beloved food and scraps from the table, Lucy also got the chance to visit the ocean one last time. Amber and Mike drove thirteen hours to Florida so she could roll in the sand and swim in the water again.
The beach was Lucy’s happy place, and seeing her enjoy it again was priceless.

Since Lucy hasn’t slowed down yet, she still has plenty of chances to experience more joy. She’ll continue to feel the love of her family and take in life’s simple beauty for as long as she can.
And when the moment finally arrives, Amber will hold her paw and reassure her that everything will be okay.
I believe Lucy will keep shining over the rainbow bridge, just like she did in her life with her mom.
