For dogs, their people are everything. When they lose them, they don’t just lose a house, they lose their entire world.
One heartbreaking example of this comes from New Jersey.
Reeses Puppycups, an eight-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier, was left in a terrible situation when her family was evicted. A week after they departed, Reeses was discovered alone in a bedroom with nothing but memories of the home she once shared.
She stayed close, still waiting for her family to return, but they never did.
Starving And Weak, Hoping For Care

During that lonely week, Reeses survived without food or attention. When officers from The South Toms River Police Department found her, she was frail, undernourished, and exhausted.
Thankfully, Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter, from Forked River, New Jersey, stepped in to give her the help she so urgently needed. She was brought to safety and given another chance.
“Her owners abandoned her when they were evicted from their home. When Reeses was finally found, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and in desperate need of care,” AHPPS wrote in a Facebook post.

Once she underwent a veterinary checkup, rescuers learned that love and food weren’t the only things missing from her life. To their concern, they discovered several tumors that needed to be removed.
She soon underwent surgery and received the medical care she had been lacking for so long. At last, she was finally given the attention and compassion she had always deserved.
Blossoming Into A New Dog

As the days passed, Reeses began to thrive. Around her caregivers, she slowly transformed into a different dog, full of warmth and life.
“Reeses is not a fan of other pets but she sure loves people, and she is so well-behaved, affectionate, friendly, and an all-around great girl. She loves running and playing from time to time but is also very mellow too,” the rescue added in their post.
Despite the hardships she had endured, her enthusiasm for life shined brighter than ever. She embraced affection and joy, winning the hearts of everyone who spent time with her.
Now that her health is improving, she’s eager to start her next chapter.
Although she continues to need some care, Reeses is finally in a place where she can look toward the future.

Her bright spirit makes her an entertainer by nature, and she’ll no doubt bring endless smiles to the family lucky enough to adopt her. With her playful yet gentle personality, she’ll be a wonderful companion for active adults who love to explore and take on new adventures.
Because of her energetic personality, Reeses is best suited for a home with adults, and she’s waiting for her perfect match to arrive.
Good luck, sweet girl. You deserve all the love in the world.
