Georgia Family Leaves Pup At Shelter, But One Woman Sees Something They Didn’t

All pups long to be loved without limits by their humans. They flourish when they feel cherished and safe.

Stories of dogs being left behind by the very families they trusted are always heartbreaking. Even though they deserve love and care, they’re left confused and alone.

This is what happened to Yogurt, a sweet dog who experienced that painful betrayal firsthand. Her owners brought her to a shelter and said they didn’t want her anymore.

Seeing Yogurt

In 2016, Jamie was working as an adoptions counselor at the Atlanta Humane Society, a shelter located in Georgia. While walking through the admissions area, she noticed a couple arriving with their dog.

When she approached, she learned that they were surrendering Yogurt. They told the staff they no longer wanted her. The moment Jamie saw the frightened pup, she felt an instant connection.

“She was hunkered down looking like a scared little girl. I don’t know what it was. I just saw her and I was like, okay, this is my dog.”

Adjusting To Her New Life

Jamie brought Yogurt home and quickly realized she had a lot to learn about being a dog. She had never lived indoors, as her previous family kept her outside in the yard.

In the beginning, Yogurt wouldn’t eat from a bowl, so Jamie placed her kibble on the floor. Eventually, she adjusted and began eating from the dish.

Because Yogurt was timid, Jamie introduced her to her parents’ dog so she could learn how to interact. It was obvious she needed time to come out of her shell, and Jamie was more than willing to give it.

After a couple of months, Yogurt started to relax and open up. She began enjoying new experiences and meeting people. Jamie was thrilled to see her dog becoming more confident and playful.

Soon, Yogurt found joy in simple things like rolling on her back and sniffing the grass.

A Connection That Can’t Be Broken

Over time, Yogurt and Jamie built a deep bond, one that carried them through many of life’s toughest moments.

“We’re probably a little too codependent on each other honestly…She’s been with me through a lot (of) the worst things that have happened to me. We both can have a little bit too much anxiety at times but we are both very good at grounding each other.”

Although she isn’t overly cuddly, Yogurt shows her love by lying close to Jamie whenever she senses that she’s upset. It’s her quiet way of being present for her mom.

Jamie has made a lifelong promise to her best friend.

“I love her unconditionally. Whatever happens with her, she’ll always be mine. I will love her for the rest of my life.”

Today, Yogurt is living her happiest life. She even shares updates from her adventures on Instagram account where she appears alongside her dog sibling, Titan.

In September 2023, Yogurt and her family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where her joyful new chapter continues.

We couldn’t be happier knowing that Yogurt finally has the love and home she deserves.
