When you hear “Golden Retriever,” what image pops into your head?
Maybe you picture a floppy-eared, long-haired pup sprinting through a sunny field, retrieving a ball from a lake, or smiling at everyone at the park. Or perhaps you think of a clever Goldie nailing every trick and command with ease.
While those are definitely classic Golden Retriever traits, one Illinois woman quickly discovered that her new pup didn’t exactly fit the stereotype.
In fact, her “Golden Retriever” turned out to be a total surprise.
Is This Really A Golden Retriever?

When Kylie adopted her Golden Retriever, Oakley, she imagined an adventurous, energetic dog who would never want to stay indoors for long. But it didn’t take long for her to realize… she was completely wrong.
Sure, Oakley had all the physical traits — the luscious coat, the friendly personality, the picture-perfect Golden Retriever build. But instead of endless outdoor escapades, he was… an iPad kid!
Oakley loves the TV more than anything else. He’ll sit in front of it, growl at Kylie until she turns it on, and then happily zone out on the couch.
“When I thought I was getting a Golden Retriever but got an ipad kid that growls at the tv if I don’t turn it on for him,” Kylie joked in a TikTok video.

The clip quickly went viral, and Oakley’s obsession struck a chord with viewers. Turns out, he’s not the only “iPad kid” in the dog world.
“My golden is the biggest iPad kid I know,” one commenter wrote.
“I swear lab does this until I turn her heated blanket on and the fan… and say get on the ‘big bed’,” another shared.
“My Goldendoodle has his own tablet,” a third admitted.

Oakley doesn’t really care what’s on — whether it’s Animal Planet, a random movie, or a TV drama — as long as the screen is on. That said, he has a soft spot for Disney. The moment the Disney intro music plays, his excitement skyrockets.
The Sweetest Little Attention Thief

When Oakley isn’t glued to the TV, he’s usually enjoying adventures with his mom or savoring a pup cup with friends. But even car rides have rules — Oakley insists on “holding hands” with his mom during the drive.
Yes, he’s that demanding… and utterly adorable.
Oakley thrives on attention and knows exactly how to get it. His signature “Oakley smirk” only adds to his charm — a grin that makes you wonder whether it’s his natural expression or the confident smile of a pup who knows he runs the house.

One thing’s for sure — it’s impossible not to fall for him.
Oakley may not be the stereotypical Golden Retriever Kylie imagined, but he’s one-of-a-kind. Whether he’s lounging in front of the TV or holding hands on the road, he’s proof that sometimes, the quirkiest pets make the best companions.
And if you’re lucky enough to join him on the couch? Just remember — belly rubs are the price of admission.
