Tom and Jerry might be a classic, but it sure didn’t do any favors for the reputation of dog–cat friendships. In reality, dogs and cats can get along beautifully — all it takes is a little patience, proper socialization, and the right personalities.
Nellie and Crush are living proof of that. They’re more than just roommates — they’re inseparable best friends who spend their days playing, cuddling, and even matching in color.
If there was ever a perfect animal duo, these two would be it.
A Friendship Written In The Stars
Eight years ago, Lindsey Miller from California met Nellie at a Humane Society in Oregon. The adoption was instant, and from that day forward, Nellie became her devoted companion.
Over time, Nellie developed an autoimmune condition that sadly led to the loss of one of her eyes. It was a heartbreaking moment for Lindsey, but Nellie never let it slow her down. She continued to greet life with the same enthusiasm — enjoying playtime, outdoor adventures, and plenty of love.
Then came Crush.
When devastating wildfires swept through parts of California, countless pets were displaced. Lindsey wanted to help, so she reached out to several rescues offering to foster an animal in need.
That’s when Kitty Bungalow, a rescue organization, contacted her about a three-month-old orange kitten who had just been brought in as a stray. Without hesitation, Lindsey welcomed him into her home.
Initially, she wasn’t sure how Nellie and this tiny newcomer would react to each other. But all her worries melted away the moment they met.
Nellie’s tail wagged as soon as she saw the kitten. Crush, fearless and curious, ran right up to her, and before long, the two were playing like lifelong pals. It was love at first sight.
Lindsey began sharing videos of their growing friendship on Instagram and TikTok, charming viewers around the world.
“Watch my 10-year old dog fall in love with our 3-month old foster kitten,” she captioned one video.
Comments flooded in:
“Besties! They picked out matching colors,” one user wrote.
Another said: “That’s your dog’s kitten now.”

More Than Just Playmates
Nellie absolutely adores her little feline brother. She lets him bat at her ears, pounce on her tail, and chase her around the house. In return, Crush brings endless entertainment with his kitten antics.
They wrestle, play hide-and-seek, and nap side by side on the coziest spots they can find.
But their bond goes deeper than just fun. Crush has helped Nellie with her separation anxiety — something she struggled with whenever Lindsey had to leave the house. Now, instead of feeling lonely, Nellie has her constant companion to keep her company until Lindsey returns.
The joy and comfort Crush brought into Nellie’s life became impossible to ignore. Lindsey realized that their connection was too special to be temporary. Just a week after fostering him, she made it official — Crush wasn’t going anywhere.
She “failed” as a foster in the best possible way, signing the adoption papers and giving Crush the forever home he deserved.
While Lindsey rescued Crush from an uncertain future, in many ways, Crush rescued them, too. His presence brought a new light into their home, and both Lindsey and Nellie are forever grateful.
