It doesn’t take much to completely transform a dog’s life. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a phone call or a message.
When Lacy Dagerath, a dog rescuer from Houston, Texas, was tagged in a social media post about a dog lying helplessly near a busy highway, she didn’t hesitate to respond.
She drove across Houston late at night and found Titus in a heartbreaking scene.
Just Inches From Disaster

Lacy’s heart sank when she saw Titus curled up in the grass. He was lying beside his deceased companion, who had been struck by a car, making the situation even more tragic.
“I was tagged in this post last night, so at 10:45 we drove to the other side of Houston to find him. We drove past him once. He was curled up sleeping and we didn’t see him. He was close to his friend who had been hit by a car. He didn’t make it,” Lacy wrote in the post.

Titus was so malnourished that he couldn’t move at all. When Lacy approached, he simply wagged his tail and looked at her warmly, as if to say, “Thank you for your kindness.”
Moments later, he was nestled into a car seat, headed toward a new beginning.
Lacy kept Titus overnight, planning to search for his family in the morning. As soon as the day began, she and her family contacted the humane society, posted flyers, and scanned him for a microchip.
Unfortunately, there were no leads.

In the meantime, Titus stayed at Lacy’s home for a couple more weeks, getting used to her large pack of rescue dogs and cats.
Before long, his sweet and playful nature made him an inseparable part of the household.
Even after weeks of searching, no one came forward to claim him. So Lacy and her family decided to extend their kindness one more time by making him a permanent member of their home.
Titus Finds His Forever Place

It turned out Titus had belonged in their family all along. Now, he was officially home.
Lacy and her family were overjoyed to have him. Titus’s friendly nature won over everyone, including the cats, and his enthusiasm for life never faded.
On her Instagram account, Lacy shares daily videos of her pack, featuring Titus’s silly antics. And while he occasionally gets into trouble, whether it’s chewing shoes or barking too much, they adore him just the same.

“They are worth more than any shoe, any staircase, any sofa… I’d rescue a thousand times and go barefoot forever if I could save them all,” Lacy stated in another post.
After all he endured, Titus is beyond grateful to finally have a family of his own, and Lacy is equally thankful she was able to save him.
