Carly would have given anything to spend her days in a loving home.
Sadly, the sweet puppy and her parents lived a difficult life with an owner who showed little care or attention.
Without proper care, the small dog family developed skin problems.
Instead of helping them, their owner surrendered them to BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions in Texas and requested they be put to sleep.
The dogs’ hearts sank when they were separated and placed in different kennels at the shelter.
From behind the bars, Carly searched for her parents, wishing she could run into their embrace again.
Wishing For A Ray Of Hope
Madeline, a compassionate foster parent and shelter volunteer, is known for speaking up for dogs listed for euthanasia.
When she learned about Carly and her parents’ heartbreaking situation, she hurried to visit them.
In her kennel without her parents, Carly appeared lost and bewildered. She looked up at Madeline with tear-filled eyes, as if silently asking her to help reunite the family.
The devoted volunteer understood just how deeply the puppy missed her mother.
Madeline went to see Carly’s mom, Chicha, and her dad, Chicho. Although kept in separate kennels, their brown eyes revealed the same sadness and helplessness.
Chicho’s sweet nature touched Madeline immediately, and as soon as he saw her, he leaned in for cuddles.
Chicha, on the other hand, showed clear signs of neglect. Mange had left her with patches of missing fur, and her skin was sore and crusted.
Madeline could see that Chicha worried for her little one, and she promised to bring her to see Carly.
When she led Chicha to the section where Carly was housed, the mother dog instantly recognized her pup’s location and hurried to her.
Through the bars, mother and daughter sniffed and kissed each other.
Relieved to see her mom safe, Carly stretched her paw toward her, even though she couldn’t actually reach her.
Fighting To Give Them A Future
Madeline posted a video of Carly, Chicha, and Chicho on social media, hoping a rescue group would step in before it was too late.
Her determination paid off when SNARR Animal Rescue Northeast promised to save the family.
Based in New York, the rescue specializes in helping dogs who are often overlooked, including those with medical needs, disabilities, or those facing euthanasia.
Soon after, foster families took in Chicha, Chicho, and Carly, giving them safe and comfortable homes.
Now, the trio is adjusting to life surrounded by love. In a few months, they’ll make the trip to New York to begin their search for permanent homes.
