While walking through the streets of Los Angeles, California, a woman named Bridget Blitsch stumbled upon a truly heartbreaking sight.
She saw a family in tears, tying their German Shepherd–Malinois mix to a tree in an empty parking lot. After placing a muzzle on her snout and setting down a bag of dog food beside her, they slowly walked away.
The confused pup stayed calm, likely thinking her family was just running a quick errand and would be back any minute.
Sadly, she would soon realize that wasn’t the case.
A Heartbreaking Goodbye

It didn’t take long for the dog to understand that her family was not returning. She began to cry, hoping they would hear her and come back.
The witness, Bridget, decided to reach out to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a rescue based in Irvine, California. Hall rushed to the location to comfort the abandoned pup.
“When you think your heart can’t break anymore, and then you see this. She didn’t know she would never see them again,” Hall wrote in an Instagram post.

While waiting for Hall to arrive, the pup, later named Melody, tried to follow her family, but being tied to the tree kept her from moving far. Thankfully, Bridget stayed with her until help came.
When Hall finally got there, the scene moved her to tears.
“She was crying, Bridget was crying, I was crying. If Bridget wasn’t at the right place at the right time, [Melody] would probably still be sitting there tied to the tree, wondering where they went,” Hall shared.

A Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Melody quickly warmed up to her rescuers. While giving her the hugs and affection she needed, Hall noticed something hanging around the dog’s neck. Bridget explained the bittersweet meaning behind it.
As they parted, Melody’s family had put a necklace around her neck so “they could always be close to her.”
“I put the necklace on my seat after I dropped her at my vet, and I looked over, and it had formed a heart by itself,” Hall recalled.

On the way to the nearest vet for a thorough checkup, Hall learned more about Melody’s heartbreaking situation.
“They became homeless, and the shelter they are staying at said it’s either the dog or the shelter they would need to leave because dogs weren’t allowed there. This sweet little baby didn’t deserve this,” Hall explained.

A few weeks later, Melody was thriving in a loving foster home. There, she could relax, leave her painful past behind, and start enjoying life again.
Now surrounded by happiness and laughter, she’s proving to be an amazing companion.
Hall is confident it won’t be long before Melody finds her forever family, one that will truly cherish her.
“We love you, sweetheart. We won’t break that pinky promise,” Hall concluded.
