Whenever I read about another act of cruelty toward animals, my heart breaks.
Instead of cherishing their pets, some people treat them with unthinkable neglect and abuse.
A small puppy named Baby Gina understands this pain all too well. She longed for love from her owners, but instead, they mistreated her and abandoned her in a Bronx apartment building.
Realizing she had been left behind, Baby Gina summoned what little strength she had and dragged her weary paws through the hallways, desperately searching for someone who might help her.
Rushing Baby Gina To Get Urgent Care

When a compassionate tenant spotted the frail figure moving slowly through the building, she quickly went to investigate.
Following the little brown-and-white pup, she was stunned to see how emaciated she was. Baby Gina could barely keep herself standing. She appeared disoriented and frightened.
The concerned woman contacted NYC Second Chance Rescue, a New York-based organization, pleading for help.
Rescuers soon arrived, and their hearts sank at the sight of the weakened puppy.
They immediately rushed Baby Gina to the hospital, where it was clear she was in grave condition. She was vomiting and completely drained of energy.
The veterinary team performed tests and bloodwork, revealing she was anemic and suffering from a urinary tract infection. They were also concerned about refeeding syndrome, a dangerous and potentially fatal complication.

Determined to save her, the vets and rescuers worked together to create a careful treatment plan. They gave her the immediate attention she needed, all while hoping with everything in them that she would survive.
“There are so many unknowns. We are just praying she can pull through. She is just a baby,” Second Chance Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
The Road Toward Healing

News of Baby Gina’s rescue spread quickly on social media, drawing an outpouring of concern and encouragement from people hoping for her recovery.
Her caregivers tended to her around the clock, offering comfort and affection the little pup had never known before. Slowly, she began responding to their kindness.
Bit by bit, Baby Gina grew stronger and started to show her true personality.

“Gina remains hospitalized and is doing well — she is happy, she is loved and she is recovering. She even has a bunch of new sweaters to keep her warm while she gains weight,” Second Chance shared on Facebook.
Meanwhile, authorities continue investigating to find and hold accountable the person responsible for her suffering.
Those who love Baby Gina eagerly await the day she is fully healed and ready to find the forever home she so deserves, one filled with the warmth and care she had been denied for far too long.
