I don’t know about you, but sometimes I look at my rescue dog and wonder about the life he lived before coming to me.
Where was he born? Did he have brothers or sisters? What did he do for fun?
I have so many questions, but I know I’ll never get the answers. So, I choose to believe he had the best time growing up.
One family, though, ended up finding out the answer to one of those questions in the most unexpected way, and I just have to share their story.
A Rescue Full Of Surprises

When they stopped by their local shelter in Silicon Valley, two devoted rescuers noticed something unusual. There was a sad little pup who looked just like their beloved dog at home.
They felt an instant connection with her and, after learning she struggled to relax in the loud shelter environment, decided to take her in as a foster.
At home, they quickly saw that the pup, now named Zoey, would need time to trust them.
“She was so terrified of people. She wouldn’t even come out of her kennel at first. She wouldn’t let us put a leash on her. We could only pet her if she was in her kennel,” the rescuers wrote in a video posted to Instagram.

Their other dog, Jazz, was eager to meet Zoey. But because Zoey was so stressed, she didn’t let Jazz near her little safe zone.
For now, the couple kept them apart until Zoey could understand she was truly safe. But there was one thing that melted their hearts: the way the two would greet each other through the glass door.

Building Trust And Friendship
Over time, Zoey began to lower her guard and grow closer to her foster parents. Two weeks after arriving, they decided it was finally time for the dogs to meet.
When they did, Zoey and Jazz instantly adored each other. They spent their days running around the yard and enjoying the sweetest playdates.
That bond with Jazz also helped Zoey open up more to her humans.

Three weeks later, the couple knew what they had to do: adopt Zoey and make her part of their family.
But the best part of the story was still to come.
Noticing just how alike the two dogs were, they decided to run a DNA test on both Zoey and Jazz to see if they might be related. The results shocked them: the two were actually sisters!
“We found them 2.5 years apart at two separate shelters over 30 miles away from each other. They were always meant to be together,” they stated.

From that point on, life was even sweeter. The sisters are inseparable, spending every day together enjoying cozy naps, delicious meals, and exciting adventures.
And really, who can blame them? They have so much catching up to do.
