When Oscar was heartlessly tossed into a dumpster in a Houston neighborhood, terror consumed him.
The Rottweiler curled up at the bottom, his eyes full of sorrow, as though he had already surrendered to his fate.
But when he least expected it, a kind local came to throw out their trash and instead found him. Without hesitation, they contacted volunteers from Fur A Pawsitive Future to come to his aid.
Though the organization primarily focuses on rescuing stray cats, they didn’t think twice about helping a dog so desperately in need.
A Ray Of Hope For A Hopeless Pup
When the rescuers arrived and spotted Oscar lying motionless amid the garbage, their hearts broke.
“He looked so defeated. Our hearts just melted, broke [and] melted again,” said Dr. Shireen Hyrapiet, president of Fur A Pawsitive Future, in an interview with The Dodo.
They spoke softly to him, trying to build trust. But after being let down by humans before, Oscar was too frightened to believe them right away.
The team gently slipped a leash over his neck and tried to coax him out. But he stayed frozen in fear. Thinking quickly, they placed an open crate inside the dumpster, hoping it would feel safer to him.
It worked. Without hesitation, Oscar stepped inside, and the rescuers breathed a sigh of relief as they lifted him to safety.
That night, volunteers gave him food, comfort, and a safe place to sleep. The next morning, they brought him to the BARC Animal Shelter.
From Dumpster To Foster Home
BARC was already overcrowded, so the staff shared Oscar’s story on social media, pleading for a rescue group to step in.
That’s when Texas Bark Squad, a Houston-based rescue, learned about his ordeal. Deeply moved, they quickly agreed to take him—especially when a foster home opened up.
“Welcome, Oscar. You’re part of the Texas Bark Squad now—and you’ll never be thrown away again,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
In foster care, Oscar blossomed. Despite the cruelty he endured, he showed nothing but sweetness and affection toward his caregivers.
Now living with his foster family, Oscar is soaking up the love and attention he’s missed for so long. From the scared, shut-down pup found in a dumpster, he’s transformed into a happy dog with a wagging tail and a bright smile.
What he wants most now is a forever home with people who will cherish him for life. His rescuers are confident that the right family will come along soon—and when they do, Oscar will finally get the love he’s always deserved.
