For many dedicated dog rescuers, the mission to save lives never truly stops. Once you fall for these four-legged companions, you’re committed for life — even if it means stepping into some of the most heart-wrenching situations imaginable.
For California animal control officer Rudy Pina, this is more than just a belief — it’s his way of life. Over the years, he’s seen it all, from strays wandering the streets to pets abandoned in the most unexpected locations.
One afternoon, a call came from a local motel in Fresno. A housekeeper had found something in one of the rooms that she never expected — a tiny puppy left behind, all alone.
A Lonely Pup Waiting For Someone To Come Back
No one knows exactly how long the small Pittie pup had been there. What was clear, though, was that his owner had left him behind, and he had been waiting patiently, hoping they would return.
Sadly, they never did. The poor pup was stuck between two beds, with no food or water in sight.
When Pina arrived, the little dog cautiously peeked from behind the bed. Unsure of the stranger before him, he quickly retreated underneath. But Pina’s calm, gentle voice slowly drew him out, and the pup seemed to sense that help had finally arrived.
Within moments, all fear seemed to vanish. The puppy rolled onto his back, asking for belly rubs, as if the two had been friends forever.
They spent a few minutes together sharing cuddles before Pina gently lifted him and placed him in a kennel in the back of his vehicle.
From Motel Room To Rescue Ride
Their journey to Fresno Animal Center began with the pup riding in the kennel, but before long, he found himself up in the passenger seat beside his rescuer. Pina wanted him to feel as comfortable and safe as possible, and the little Pittie clearly enjoyed the change.
Once at the shelter, he was given much-needed care, attention, and a safe place to stay.
Pina later described him as incredibly sweet and easygoing.
“Puppy abandoned at Motel6 on Blackstone in Fresno. Super handsome VERY friendly Pitty. He is currently at the @Fresno Animal Center waiting for his forever home,” Pina wrote on TikTok.
Until he’s adopted or fostered, the puppy will remain at the shelter, receiving love from the staff. But everyone agrees — with his adorable looks and loving personality, he deserves a family as soon as possible.
“Please reach out to the shelter if you are interested in fostering, adopting or know a rescue! He is a young pup and doesn’t deserve to grow up at the shelter,” Pina added.
