Hopeless and defeated, a lonely pup stood on the street. Unable to use his back legs because of the pain from his injury, he felt completely powerless.
The sorrow he carried was clear in his beautiful eyes.
Just when he thought there was no hope left, something wonderful happened.
Rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, a Missouri-based organization, were driving through the neighborhood when they noticed the scared dog. The moment they saw his hunched posture, they realized something was wrong.
The pup, later named Guillermo de la Cruz, looked at them with sorrowful puppy eyes, as if pleading for them to take him somewhere safe.
Finally Safe
The rescue team immediately pulled over and rushed toward him.
Although Guillermo de la Cruz was frightened, his injuries kept him from running away.
Rescuer Donna Lochmann approached gently, speaking words of reassurance as she slipped a leash around his neck.
While they carried him to the car, Guillermo de la Cruz appeared anxious.
However, once he was settled into the seat, he seemed to understand he was safe and began to relax.
“[A]s soon as he realized he was safe in the car, he relaxed. You are safe, you big, sweet angel,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote in a Facebook post.
The team transported him to the rescue’s facility, where he was welcomed with open arms.
Upon arrival, he underwent a medical exam. The staff provided consistent care and a nutritious diet to help him gain weight.
With the rescue team’s exceptional attention and the love they poured into him, Guillermo de la Cruz made a full recovery and transformed into a healthy, chunky dog.
His handsome looks drew attention everywhere he went.
“Guillermo de la Cruz is a show-stopper wherever he goes! This choco chonk of a baby doll boy has permanent puppy eyes and a record-breaking-sized noggin,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
His Happiest Chapter Yet
Guillermo de la Cruz didn’t just heal physically. He overcame his emotional wounds, revealing a sweet and affectionate nature that charmed everyone he met.
When the time came to search for a forever home, it didn’t take long for the right family to find him.
After a joyful period with his foster family, Guillermo de la Cruz met his permanent family, who were eager to surround him with love.
Now called Archie, he began the best part of his life, finally learning what true love feels like.
“He now has two fur brothers (Jax [and] Flex), a fur sister (Lucy), and a mom and dad who are totally nuts about him,” the Missouri rescue wrote in a Facebook update.
