When it comes to adopting a dog, most people consider a pup’s age and breed as top factors. And for many, breed tends to be the deciding element.
I’ll admit, I’d also have a preference for certain breeds before adopting. Not because there’s anything wrong with others — it’s simply a personal choice. And that’s perfectly fine. What matters most is finding a dog whose temperament and needs align with their new family.
For one Florida woman, things took an unexpected turn. When she first welcomed her new pup, she was certain she had adopted a Black Labrador. But before long, she discovered a surprising truth.
A Shocking Discovery
When Nancy Muth first brought home her new dog, Rocco, she believed she was adopting a Black Lab.
Rocco had come from a family that could no longer care for him, and his littermates weren’t very kind to him. Wanting to give him a better life, Muth decided to open her home to him.
For a while, Rocco settled in well — until Muth began to notice something unusual. His face was starting to develop wrinkles, something not typical for Labradors.
Curious, she took him to a local vet in Florida for a checkup. That’s when she got the unexpected news: her “Lab” puppy was actually more likely a Cane Corso.
It was a complete shock. Sure, as a young pup, Rocco looked like a Labrador, but as he grew, his features began telling a different story.
Muth had never owned a Cane Corso before — her family had always kept Corgis — but despite the surprise, they adored him instantly.
