Moose is living proof that shelter dogs are far from troublesome!
With a bullet lodged in her lung and an awful start in life, this sweet Pittie had a single mission: to become everyone’s best friend.
Tragically, no one gave her the opportunity to show she was worthy of adoption, and she was slated for euthanasia just the day before Micky discovered her story.
It was literally an extra kennel that postponed her tragic fate, and ultimately spared her life!
Beating A False Stigma

Moose’s eventual guardian, Micky, arrived just in time. When she learned that the Pittie was moments away from being put down, she didn’t hesitate. She applied to adopt Moose on the spot!
Moose boarded a bus in Houston, Texas, and five days later, she arrived in Virginia to meet her rescuer.
What made her impending euthanasia even more heartbreaking was that the only “behavioral” issue on record was that she barked at another dog.
“It’s really sad because she was behavioral euthanasia and the only thing I saw in all of her staff notes was that she barked at another dog,” Micky told GeoBeats Animals.
As if that weren’t enough, Moose had been shot and had endured an abortion in her past.
“She had been shot (I only know this because we saw the bullet on her X-rays, it can’t be removed but multiple vets have said it does not effect her or put her in danger), had heartworms & was treated when I got her, and had an abortion,” Micky wrote on Instagram.
Unfairly stigmatized and having survived a horrific first year, Moose’s spirits might have been broken, but Micky was determined to give her a fresh start.
“I’m shocked that this dog, considering how terrible her first year of life was, wants to be everyone’s best friend,” says Micky.
Moose – The Sweetest Lovebug Ever

Though Micky expected Moose to need extensive rehabilitation, this charming girl turned out to be the opposite of high-maintenance.
From her behavior in the home, it was clear she once had an owner, she was impeccably potty trained and already knew the household rules.
Her gentle temperament stood in stark contrast to the idea of “the dog who needed to be put down.”

Moose adored people and other dogs alike, and she was quick to learn new skills. That inspired Micky to envision training her as a therapy dog.
“Despite all of this she has been the best girl ever and is learning more each day. She has come so far and was the best thing that could have happened to me,” says Micky.
Multipurpose Service Pittie In Training

Living with mobility challenges, Micky needed a certified therapy dog, and Moose proved to be the perfect candidate. Her intuitive nature made her an ideal partner from the start.
“Usually, she sleeps by my legs, but if I’m having a flare, and really, really don’t feel good, she’ll sleep up by my head,” explains Micky.

Now undergoing OFA certification, there’s no doubt this one-of-a-kind shelter rescue will blossom into a remarkable therapy dog.
Moose has been part of Micky’s family for over a year and a half, and their bond has only grown stronger.
This extraordinary pair is inseparable, embarking on beautiful adventures every single day!
