Sometimes, it feels like you don’t choose a dog—they choose you.
More often than not, they look right into your eyes and spark a connection so strong, it feels like life wouldn’t make sense without them.
That’s exactly what happened when Chelsea visited the Animal Care Center in New York. She saw a pair of chocolate brown eyes that captured her heart immediately. They belonged to a dog named Pickles.
A Connection That Was Meant To Happen

Before Pickles met Chelsea, her life had been anything but easy. She’d been found tied to a pole during a heat wave, left without shade or water.
After being checked out by the vet, it was clear that Pickles, only a year old, had recently had a litter of puppies. Her sad story moved the shelter staff deeply, and they listed her for adoption, hoping the right person would come along to give her the loving life she deserved.
And that’s just what happened.

Pickles wasn’t quite sure how to react when she first arrived at her new home.
“She was very curious. I don’t think she had lived indoors before. The car was like a UFO to her. She would not stop staring at the TV and got very confused as it played,” Chelsea told GeoBeats.
But once she got a little more comfortable, Pickles quickly discovered what she loved most: being touched.

Whenever she spotted Chelsea sitting or lying down, she would dash over for a cuddle session.
But Chelsea wasn’t the only one she wanted to snuggle with. Pickles also took quite a liking to Chelsea’s boyfriend.
The Sweetest Diva Of Them All
From the moment she met him, Pickles seemed completely smitten.
“She is kind of a boyfriend stealer and very much likes to put her paws like over his leg and she always makes sure to sit in between us so that we are not actually touching,” she said.
That once quiet and unsure shelter dog turned into a full-blown diva, soaking up attention every chance she got.
It got to the point where, if Chelsea came too close to her boyfriend, Pickles would grow jealous and make silly noises just to bring the attention back to herself.
“Anytime that she thinks my boyfriend has given me too much attention and not her, she’ll voice her sassiness that she’s disapproving. She will give a little yell at him too. They are just two peas in the pod now. That’s definitely her boyfriend,” she concluded.
