Cali has everything any dog lover could ask for. She’s gentle and kind, always ready to share love with everyone around her.
Her story began when she and her littermates were brought to the Animal Care Society n Louisville, Kentucky.
Things looked promising at first, especially when Cali landed what seemed to be her forever home.
But nobody expected her happy ending to fall apart, leaving her completely heartbroken.
Cali Gets Brought Back
In 2023, not long after arriving at the shelter, Cali was adopted and moved in with a new family, believing her dream had come true.
She lived with other dogs in the household.
For a while, everything was going well, but after some time, Cali started showing signs of jealousy toward the other dogs, and her adopters brought her back to the shelter.
Even though she was heartbroken, Cali proved to be strong and recovered from the setback.
It looked like her luck was turning around again when another family fell for her and chose to give her a new beginning.
Cali happily started her next chapter, truly believing this was her final home.
Sadly, things didn’t go as planned. Due to changes in the family’s work situation, they brought her back once again.
Confused and sad, Cali returned to the shelter for a second time.
Left Out Through No Fault Of Her Own
Although the shelter team hoped she would be adopted again soon, no one came forward. Cali longed for love but continued to be passed over.
Her caretakers believed that one big reason she remained unadopted was because she needed to be the only dog, and most potential adopters already had pets.
Recently, Cali attended an adoption event with hope in her heart that this time would be different. She watched as families approached other dogs and took them home, while she sat unnoticed.
Feeling forgotten, Cali stayed quietly in her crate with a heart-wrenching look on her face. One by one, the other dogs found homes, but no one came for her.
The Kentucky shelter filmed a video as she remained alone at the event.
Though the sad clip touched a lot of people, Cali continued to wait for someone to come for her. A few families asked about her, but none actually visited her at the shelter.
The Update Everyone Was Hoping For
Her shelter team stayed hopeful that things would turn around and she’d finally receive the love she had been waiting for.
Cali couldn’t wait to meet her future people and pour all of her affection into them.
On May 22nd of 2025, the shelter posted the news that everyone was waiting for! Cali went to her foster-to-adopt home.
“This means her new family fully intends to adopt her and give her the forever home she deserves. The next three weeks will be a trial period to ensure Cali feels comfortable and settles in well,” the shelter shared on Facebook.
