Four tiny Dogo Argentino puppies were left frightened and alone after cruel individuals dumped them in a truck bed under the cover of darkness.
Shivering and famished, the four innocent siblings huddled close, seeking comfort from one another.
Missing their mother desperately, they began soft yelps, longing for her warmth and protection.
With all their little hearts, they prayed for kind humans who would show them they were worthy of love and care.
A Rescue Mission
That same evening, Georgia resident Alex Towers was returning from the gym and heading toward his truck in the parking garage when he heard faint yelps.
Investigating the sound, he discovered four emaciated Dogo Argentino puppies crouched in his truck bed. His heart sank.
The pups looked up at him with pleading eyes. Spotting their protruding ribs, Towers realized they urgently needed medical attention.
He immediately began calling around, searching for a 24-hour pet hospital. Once he and his girlfriend learned that the Veterinary Emergency Group in Brookhaven, Georgia, was open, they rushed the puppies there.
The veterinary team examined the babies and administered the critical care they required.
Staff then contacted DC Dogos Rescue, a Florida-based organization dedicated to finding Dogo Argentinos loving, permanent homes. The rescue agreed to take the puppies in.
The Rescue Takes The Pups In
The following morning, a nearby foster volunteer collected the puppies and brought them into his home, showering them with affection and tending to their needs.
After several days of recuperation, another volunteer transported the little ones to the rescue farm in Tampa.
At the farm, the staff greeted the pups with gentle cuddles and open arms. The four siblings stayed inseparable, often curling up together for naps and reassurance.
One volunteer who drove them to Tampa fell so hard for one pup that she decided to foster her permanently.
Not long after, two more Dogo Argentino pups, also just eight weeks old, were discovered abandoned on the side of a road in Atlanta and brought to Tampa as well.
“Someone saw them off the sidewalk, off the side of the road. So clearly, they were just dumped there; they were the same age, eight weeks old. We’re thinking, maybe they’re from the same batch or litter,” Pamela Fay, the executive director of DC Dogos Rescue told PEOPLE.
All six puppies received veterinary care and were estimated at eight weeks of age.
Though they had clearly suffered early neglect, veterinarians expected full recoveries once dewormed and nourished on a rich diet.
Under the dedicated care of the rescue staff, the pups quickly began to thrive.
Within days, they were romping about, wagging their tails, and gazing up with bright, hopeful eyes.
The six were christened Crysta, Magi, Zak, Hexxus, Justin, and Joey.
Searching for Forever Homes Filled With Love
DC Dogos Rescue is now accepting adoption applications for these joyful pups. Once each is fully recovered, they’ll be ready to move into their permanent families.
Fay urges any prospective adopters to research the breed thoroughly, as Dogo Argentinos require plenty of mental stimulation and vigorous exercise.
She welcomes all questions about these energetic babies.
“They are some of the cutest puppies ever, and so people want to get them, and then they realize they’re too much. It’s a wonderful breed, but they’re just not for everybody. And so we tend to see them get dumped quite a bit once they hit maturity,” Fay added.
