Frankie, a five-week-old Pit Bull pup, experienced heartbreak for the first time when his family abandoned him.
They placed the tiny dog inside a Pampers diaper box and left him on West Side property in Buffalo, New York.
Peeking his little head out of the box, Frankie looked around, his eyes full of hope.
He wished someone kind would spot him and take him somewhere safe.
The Help Comes
Robin, a local shop owner, was stunned when she found an adorable puppy, soon named Frankie, outside her storefront.
She gently picked up the puppy and assured him that help was on the way.
Seeing her warm expression, Frankie felt at ease. He sensed she could be trusted.
Robin, a committed supporter of West Side Cat Rescue, a Buffalo-based shelter, and she reached out to them, asking them to take Frankie into their care.
Jamie Mulligan, who runs the shelter, took the call.
Jamie believed that whoever left Frankie at the store probably knew he’d be cared for properly.
The rescue agreed to take Frankie in and give him the attention he needed. They chose not to send him to a shelter that was already overcrowded.
“Unfortunately, the local shelters here are full of pit bulls that no one wants to adopt, so Jamie knew she couldn’t bring him to an overcrowded shelter,” the representative from West Side Cat Rescue told The Dodo.
Frankie quickly won over everyone at the rescue. All he wanted was to be held. More than anything, he needed affection.
His new caretakers brought him to the vet for a checkup.
Once they picked up food, a leash, and a collar, Frankie was ready to move into a foster home.
Frankie Finds Forever Family
Jamie’s daughter, who often helps out at the shelter, offered to foster the charming little pup.
Frankie’s life turned around the moment he entered his foster home. His new caregiver cuddled and doted on him constantly.
Over time, the puppy formed a strong bond with her.
When Jamie’s daughter mentioned changing his name, her family realized she had grown deeply attached.
She chose a new name for the puppy: Percy.
“It’s now looking like [Jamie’s] daughter has become attached. Percy is now a foster fail,” the representative added.
Percy felt safe and deeply loved in his forever home. With joy in his puppy eyes, he soaked up all the affection.
He knew he had found his happily ever after.
