Sunny had likely given up hope of being rescued as cars continued passing without stopping.
Perched on a highway median, the pup was alone and vulnerable. She yearned for safety, unsure where to turn.
While she appreciated the food tossed her way by passing drivers, Sunny wished someone would truly stop and care. She needed to feel seen, loved, and safe.
Just as she was beginning to believe no one would come, her rescuer appeared and didn’t hesitate to help.
Volunteer Steps In To Help Sunny

Karla, a compassionate volunteer with Trapping, Rescue, and Pet Recovery Service (TRAPRS), was driving through Austin, Texas, when she noticed Sunny stuck on the highway median.
The dog looked out at the traffic with a heart-wrenching expression, as if silently pleading for someone to stop.

Alarmed for Sunny’s safety, Karla quickly pulled over and sprang into action.
“[It’s] our team’s worst nightmare: seeing this randomly while driving. With traffic picking up, we knew this dog had no good outcome if left to her own fate,” TRAPRS wrote on Instagram.
Though she didn’t have any rescue gear or food with her, Karla acted fast and tried coaxing the dog to safety.
Weaving through traffic, she slowly approached the frightened pup, speaking gently to gain her trust.
Relieved to finally see someone coming to help, Sunny let Karla approach and didn’t resist.
As soon as Karla scooped her up, Sunny seemed to exhale. She was finally out of danger.
Not long after, Alicia, another TRAPRS volunteer, arrived to assist Karla in crossing the highway with Sunny in her arms.
Sunny Looks Forward To Finding Her Forever Family

Once inside the car, Sunny began to relax. For the first time in a long while, things seemed to be turning around.
The volunteers offered her food, and she devoured it with eager gratitude.
Soon after her rescue, Sunny was placed with an emergency foster where she began to settle in and recover.

Since her current foster home is only temporary, Sunny now hopes for a family of her own.
She’s looking for a gentle household that will offer love and help her come out of her shell.
Her rescuers believe that Sunny has likely gone without affection for much of her life and would do best in a peaceful, stable home.

“She’s been through a lot and needs a patient family while she rests and comes out of her shell. She enjoys going outside for walks, taking naps and is quiet in her crate. She may do well with another calm dog. She could fare well in a home or apartment,” Caitlin Chapman, the director of TRAPRS, told The Dodo.
While she waits for the right family, Sunny is surrounded by caring people who give her all the love they can.
It’s only a matter of time before Sunny leaves her past behind and starts her new chapter with a forever family who will treasure her.
