Husky Returned To California Shelter After New Owners Say ‘They Didn’t Like Him’

There’s something remarkable about the instincts of dogs.

They can sense and respond to emotions, anticipate situations, and react without needing to be taught. It’s just part of who they are.

What always stands out most to me is how some shelter dogs seem to know when they’re finally going home.

Think about it: after spending days, months, or even years inside a kennel, a family appears, ready to give them a new start. You can see the excitement in their eyes as they realize everything is about to change.

That’s what happened to Guy, a shelter Husky with a painful past. He was adopted into what seemed like his forever home, but just weeks later, he was returned because the new family claimed they didn’t like him. His entire world shattered.

A Family That Wasn’t The Right Match

When Guy first arrived at West Coast Cane Corso Rescue the team welcomed him warmly. Even though they mainly rescue Cane Corsos, they couldn’t turn him away.

He had a gentle personality, was eager to connect, and it wasn’t long before he caught the attention of an interested family.

Sadly, his good fortune didn’t last. Within weeks, he was brought back. His adopters admitted they were scared of him and didn’t care for him.

To make matters more difficult, there had been another applicant who was passed over in favor of the first family.

“I had two applicants for Guy and I initially chose the wrong family! I adopted him last week, and he just didn’t fit in. I called the other applicant, apologized and he was devastated,” the California rescue wrote on Instagram.

After explaining the situation to the second applicant, Abraham, the rescue was relieved to learn that he was still interested. He didn’t hesitate to come meet Guy in person.

The connection between them was immediate. Guy’s return turned out to be a blessing, because in Abraham he found exactly what he had been waiting for: a real family.

The two left together to begin their new chapter.

From Risk Of Euthanasia To A New Beginning

Guy’s story is even more incredible when you consider where he started.

Before arriving at WCCCR, he had been surrendered by his former owners to a high-risk shelter. After that, he ended up at a questionable rescue hidden deep in Northern California, along with over thirty other Huskies.

There, he was exposed to serious neglect and mistreatment until being rescued in October 2024.

Despite all he endured, Guy never showed signs of trauma or poor behavior. He was well-mannered and calm, and it was clear to those around him.

“He has exceptional manners, he enjoys nice food, he is house trained, crate trained, has a recall, doesn’t run away, and has solid obedience training behind him,” the rescue concludes.

Now, he spends his days with Abraham, enjoying every moment and making new memories. His adopter keeps in touch with the rescue, sharing updates and photos that show how happy Guy is.

From being abandoned with no hope, he has become a joyful, confident dog living the life he always deserved.
