Dogs are truly some of the sweetest and most genuine creatures on the planet. They have a way of making anyone’s day brighter and can befriend just about anyone they meet.
That said, it doesn’t mean they’re above using a bit of manipulation. I’ve definitely had my own dog try the guilt-trip trick more than once.
Whenever he broke something, all it took was one look with those sad eyes, and he figured I’d forget everything. And I’ll admit, it worked more often than not.
Still, some owners catch on faster than I did—and one woman in New York learned this firsthand. That’s exactly what this story is about.
She’s Pulling A Classic Guilt Move
When Amanda’s mom brought their dog to a New York daycare, she definitely didn’t expect the reaction that followed.
It turns out, their pup looked completely heartbroken, clearly upset that one of her owners was leaving her behind for a few hours. Even though she’d be playing with other dogs, it didn’t seem to cheer her up.
She sent Amanda some photos, and her daughter was shocked at how sad the dog appeared. The puppy eyes were on full display, clearly aimed at making her mom turn around.
At first, Amanda completely bought into it and told her mom to just bring the dog back home. But after thinking it through, it all clicked.
The dog simply wanted to go to work with Amanda’s mom, and when she couldn’t, she used her best guilt-trip technique. Luckily, they weren’t falling for it this time.
And this wasn’t the first time she’d pulled something like this. Her go-to move is to drop her head slightly, then peer up with those big eyes. Safe to say, it’s worked quite well in the past.
One Funny Video
After they captured the moment, the whole family thought it was just too funny not to share. Amanda posted the video on her TikTok account.
They expected it might get a few laughs, but it quickly went viral. The clip gained hundreds of thousands of views, and many viewers could relate.
One person commented, “As a doggie daycare worker if I saw your pup at daycare especially that last pic I would drop everything to love on her.”
Honestly, that’s likely the whole point of the sad eyes. It’s a well-practiced strategy, and it’s hard not to fall for it.

They weren’t the only one caught off guard. A lot of people seemed to feel the same, and it’s clear this dog knows exactly how to put on a show.
Lastly, somebody commented: “Aw, as someone who works in the petsmart pet hotel i would never send my dog there. Red collar means she is not allowed in group play so she just sits in thar room all day long.”
But that definitely wasn’t the case here. This pup got to spend the entire day with the staff, who made sure to keep her busy with toys, treats, and attention.
Amanda could tell her dog had a blast because every time she came home, she zoomed around the house. And really, that’s what matters most.
