Clyde’s mom, Caitlin, told The Dodo: “It started with butterflies in the yard and random things around the house, like toilet paper rolls. The instincts are so ingrained in him, he does it without training!”
His family explained that Clyde had been doing this ever since he was a puppy. It’s a behavior that only got more refined over time. Given his breed’s background, it all made perfect sense.
Sometimes, Clyde would focus so intently on such tiny creatures that it took his family a moment to figure out what he was even staring at.

Caitlin continues by saying: “My husband was laughing that this reel went so viral because, to us, Clyde standing stock still in the backyard for minutes at a time is so normal to us we barely even notice it!”

They’ve described his intense stillness as almost like “falling into a trance,” since he locks in on whatever animal has caught his eye and won’t move a muscle.
For his family, it’s not just entertaining – it’s a great form of mental stimulation. Of course, Clyde still loves beach days and active playtime with his humans just as much.
