Some moments in life just stand out more than others. Graduating from college, getting married, having a baby; they’re all unforgettable milestones. And moving into a new home definitely belongs on that list, too.
While the move alone is a big deal, sometimes an unexpected surprise takes things to a whole new level. That’s exactly what happened to Matt Garcia and his wife after settling into their new house in Tennessee.
They were already thrilled with their new place, but the furry little surprise waiting for them made the experience even more unforgettable.
Unexpected Visitor

When Matt Garcia and his wife arrived to see their new home in Tennessee, they expected the house itself to be the biggest surprise. But something, or rather someone, unexpected greeted them instead.
“I found something today, in our planter that kind of came as a little surprise,” this photographer from Lewisburg, Tennessee said on TikTok, referring to a ginger pup whom he found near the entrance of the house.
A Basset Hound had curled up peacefully right beside their front door, as if it had always been his home. Although Matt and his wife—who both happen to be big dog lovers—were touched by the sight, they were also left with questions.
“We found this little buddy in our planter, just kind of sleeping. He’s fine, but we don’t know what to do with him. We fed him, we gave him water. there’s no tag on that collar though… unfortunately.” Matt said.
“What should i do with this sweet ol dog????” he asked in the caption of the video he posted via his TikTok account @mattdotgarcia.
His followers and viewers were quick to chime in with advice.
“Get him scanned at a local vet for a microchip 🤷🏼♀️” one user wrote.
“Put a bed on that porch for that baby,” another added.
And the third quipped: “CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW DOG AND HIS HOME.”
However, this last comment soon received a reply from Matt himself: “Update posted!”
“A Pretty Sweet Routine”
Just a few days after Matt’s first video about the Basset Hound, he returned with a second update video to fill his curious followers in on what he’d discovered.
The dog wasn’t lost or abandoned, as many had feared. He actually lived just across the train tracks, a couple of miles from their new home. His name? Copper.
The reveal that Copper had a home reassured viewers, though some were still uneasy about the fact that he crossed train tracks to get there.
One viewer offered a thoughtful tip: “If you don’t already, put a ring camera. That way you will know when he stops by and can give him treats.”
Matt noted that Copper hadn’t visited again for a few days and that he already missed the sweet pup. Luckily, he didn’t have to wait too long: Copper returned shortly after.

In Matt’s latest TikTok video, he’s visibly thrilled to be reunited with his four-legged buddy, and viewers were just as happy to see them together again.
One person commented: “He needs a forever home and regular food and love. he needs YOU!”
Still, Matt had a ready answer: “So far, he seems to have himself a pretty good routine from what we can tell… he comes by and gets pets and loves + water & a little food- then he usually falls RIGHT to sleep.”
And honestly, isn’t that all a dog could really ask for?
