There is nothing more heartbreaking than the moment when we realize that we have to put our beloved dog to rest.
It could be because they are too old and struggling due to health reasons, or they are suffering from an illness that will only allow them to live in pain.
Whatever the reason is, it’s cruel and it’s really sad, and nothing can prepare us for this. Nobody really thinks about the day when their pup will cross the rainbow bridge because we just don’t want it to happen.
The owner from Wisconsin went through something similar when she realized that something was going wrong with her dog, so she tried her best to help.
Time Was Running Out

As soon as Krysten Klapatauskas noticed that something was wrong with her dog, she decided to examine her.
During one of their walks, the pup, named Stoli, had stumbled. While this might not seem like a big deal, Krysten suspected that she was having a stroke, so she took her to the ER.
The vet from Wisconsin examined her, and she was diagnosed with a sprained neck. Nevertheless, Krysten had a suspicion that something else was at play.
She took Stoli to another veterinarian for a second opinion. The blood work actually didn’t reveal much. Krysten was told that her dog likely had ‘joint pain’.

Then, things got progressively worse. At one point, Stoli woke up with breathing difficulties, so Krysten rushed her to the veterinarian again.
However, what she was told this time devastated her. Apparently, the vet told her that Stoli had large tumors on her spleen and abdomen.
There was little chance they could save her. Her only option was to undergo surgery that wouldn’t meaningfully increase her lifespan.
A Heartbreaking Moment For Krysten

Krysten was completely devastated and she realized that Stoli would only go through more pain if she was taken to surgery, so she realized that the most humane option was to put her to sleep.
She made the difficult decision and Stoli crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after. It was one of the most difficult days of Krysten’s life.
After Stoli’s passing, one of the mailmen, Malachi, who regularly stopped by Krysten’s house, actually came to deliver the dog’s remains.
Malachi would often encounter Stoli when delivering the mail and he was always petting her or giving her belly rubs. It was really wholesome to see.

The kind man brought Stoli’s remains to Krysten and gave her a hug because this was an extremely difficult time for her.
They talked for hours about Stoli and how much this beautiful dog meant to both of them. It was comforting for Krysten and moments like this always restore my faith in humanity.
Dogs are always great at uniting us and turning us into the best version of ourselves, which is why it’s so heartbreaking when they leave us. I think I speak on everyone’s behalf when I say that I wish all dogs could stay longer with us.
