They usually enjoy a good walk or even an entire day filled with fun activities. Small gestures like this help make shelter life more bearable for these dogs.
Sometimes, these moments turn into something more lasting, especially when a volunteer decides to adopt a shelter pup.
That’s exactly what happened with Ruby, a dog who simply wanted a forever home, unaware that something very special was about to unfold.
Ruby Truly Deserves A Loving Forever Home

When Ruby first arrived at a shelter in North Carolina, her whole world changed. Her mood shifted noticeably.
Shelters can help dogs find new families, but they can also be a stressful place for many animals.
Everything began to change when a volunteer named Haleigh invited Ruby for a sleepover at her home.

The plan was just a relaxing evening to offer Ruby a break from the stressful shelter environment.
What Haleigh did not expect was how hard it would be to return Ruby. They instantly bonded, and Haleigh fell in love with the sweet pup.
She knew she wanted to adopt Ruby, so she went back to Burlington Animal Services, where Ruby was staying.
Ruby’s Journey To A Fresh Start

On the drive back, Haleigh noticed how sad Ruby looked. The dog seemed to think she was being taken back to the shelter, and she clearly did not want to go.
The sadness in Ruby’s eyes was heartbreaking.
Thankfully, Haleigh was only heading to the shelter to finalize the adoption. Their new life together was about to begin.
At the shelter, staff informed Haleigh that Ruby needed a microchip and one last veterinary checkup to be ready to go home.

Haleigh took care of the final steps and signed the adoption papers. Ruby was officially part of her new family.
After a long time in the shelter, Ruby finally had a home in North Carolina with Haleigh.
There is no doubt they will share many wonderful adventures ahead, and it’s wonderful to see such a happy ending for both of them.
