Heartbroken Dog Survives Alone In Abandoned California House For A Week

How do you walk away from your loyal companion?

Even after saying goodbye, does that ache ever really go away? These were the thoughts that flooded my mind after losing Jackie, my beloved pup who crossed the rainbow bridge and took a piece of my heart with him.

But not everyone wrestles with the kind of pain that keeps you from forgetting. My heart broke all over again when I heard about a dog left completely alone in an abandoned house—without food or water.

Left to fend for himself, the poor pup endured seven long days, barely hanging on. Thankfully, his rescuers arrived just in time.

A Devastating Scene To Witness

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, has witnessed countless heartbreaking moments throughout her rescue work. But when she was told about a dog trapped in a deserted property, her heart dropped.

She immediately contacted her friend, Kym Marie, who went straight to the home. What she found was utterly crushing.

“He had almost given up, left behind after they moved away in the tiniest spot where no one could see him, his leash tied,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.

Trying to sleep away his sorrow, the dog curled up and waited, weak and dehydrated. He hadn’t eaten or had a drink in an entire week.

“It had been about a week since they moved out and it’s been so hot. They did not leave any food or water even. Kym gave him food and water for the first time in a week,” Hall added.

Once he received a bit of nourishment and care, Hall and Kym made a plan to bring him to safety.

They slowly approached him, offering gentle encouragement and soft touches. Though still wary, the dog eventually let himself be lifted and placed into Hall’s car.

He was finally heading toward something better—and it already felt like a relief.

When Hall saw him wag his tail for the very first time, her heart melted.

“When I picked him up, he literally wiggled his little frail tail. Our hearts sunk. His gums were pale,” Hall wrote.

It was as if he knew help had arrived. Instead of guarding himself, he relaxed and leaned into Hall, trusting her completely.

Hall rushed him to the vet, determined to help him feel safe again.

“I got him to my vet as fast as I could and I told him we’re going to bring the Joy back,” the California rescuer concluded.

After enduring abandonment and a lonely, painful week, this resilient pup finally has a second chance. From now on, his days will be filled with affection, warmth, and the love he always deserved.
