Hearing piercing screams late at night is unsettling, to say the least. But for one courageous woman with a heart of gold, fear wasn’t an option.
Kaitlyn, a rescuer with Adams County Pet Rescue in Othello, Washington, didn’t hesitate for a second when she heard the sounds.
Though it was immediately clear the cries weren’t human, she still couldn’t pinpoint exactly where (or what) they were coming from. That is, until she looked beneath her own vehicle.
An Unexpected Discovery
It was nearly 11 p.m., and Kaitlyn had just returned home after letting her dogs out for a bathroom break. Suddenly, haunting cries echoed from under her car.
Curious and concerned, she crouched down—and was stopped cold by what she saw. Staring back at her, from deep within the shadows, were two terrified eyes.
There, tucked under her car, was a frightened pup, frozen in place and hoping to stay hidden.
But this wasn’t going to be a simple rescue.
Kaitlyn never imagined that what started as a routine night would become a frantic chase. What she thought would be a calm approach turned chaotic in seconds.
“The pup headed out from under the car with Kaitlyn running right behind it. She needed to make quick decisions so it didn’t head out into the night and not be found,” the rescue shared.
Luckily, instead of bolting into the open fields, the pup darted in circles around Kaitlyn’s yard. Though clearly frightened, she somehow sensed this enclosed space might be her safest option.
Barefoot and determined—having lost her sandals mid-chase—Kaitlyn called in some extra help. With the support of a few kind hands, they managed to gently corner the scared pup.
That’s when the rescue team stepped in.
“When Kaitlyn calls at 11 p.m. at night, I always know it’s something interesting happening and I better answer. When she’s breathless, I know it’s going to be some real exciting and of course, it was,” the Washington-based rescue posted on Facebook.
Once secure, the dog was transported to the shelter where she could finally rest and receive proper care.
Primavera’s Fresh Start
Though she was rattled and wary at first, the pup, now named Primavera, soon began to open up.
Thanks to the loving efforts of the ACPR team, she was placed in a foster home, where she started to bloom into a completely different dog.
With her foster mom, Tammy, by her side, Primavera began learning what it means to be safe, loved, and happy. Her transformation was nothing short of amazing.
And, perhaps most adorably, she discovered her love for riding around in a puppy buggy!
Tammy’s love and patience helped Primavera come out of her shell. The once-shy pup is now affectionate, playful, and full of joy. Whether she’s chasing balls, chewing toys, or showing off her beloved stuffies, she’s all about fun—and people.
“She loves chasing balls, chew toys, carrying her stuffies around and hanging out in the backyard. She’s very social now and wants to be where the people are,” the ACPR team shared on Facebook.
Though she’s still adjusting and growing, there’s no doubt that Primavera is well on her way to becoming the perfect companion.
When the time comes, she’ll be ready to join her forever family—one that will love her unconditionally and help her continue to thrive.
After everything she’s endured, it’s exactly what she deserves.
