Thanks to people such as Olivia Marcus, a content creator, shelter dogs’ stories are heard all over the world.
One such story left social media in awe last year. Radiance, a sweet Pittie who was found as a lost dog and brought to a New Jersey shelter, melted hearts online with her kind demeanor and friendliness.
However, despite all the support she received, this lovely girl still hasn’t had a single application.
Shelter’s Longest Resident
When Radiance first arrived at Newark Associated Humane Society, New Jersey, no one expected her to become the shelter’s longest resident.
With her friendly nature and social skills of a genuine sweetheart, Radiance was the epitome of the perfect dog. However, she continued to be overlooked by everyone. After twelve months of hope, Radiance didn’t get a single application.
“Twelve months of stress, concrete floors, and watching others go home while she’s left behind,” AHS of Newark stated in the post.
Enter Olivia!
Finding out about Radiance’s situation, Olivia decided to help this sweet girl. She posted dozens of pleas on social media, showing Radiance’s beautiful temperament to her followers.
In one of her videos, Radiance is showcased showering a group of her volunteers with love. Every single one of them said the same thing: she deserves a home!
“When I say everyone loves Radiance, I mean EVERYONE. She’s a staff, volunteer, and vet team favorite. Tomorrow she hits 400 days in the shelter. She needs out,” Olivia wrote in the video.
Soon enough, this sweet Pittie became an internet sensation, with her posts going viral within days. But, even so, Radiance still didn’t have any active applications.
She remained in the shelter for 400 days, making her officially the longest resident in New Jersey’s facility.
While Radiance was a genuinely friendly dog and deemed “the queen of the shelter,” her reality was far from ideal.
The loud environment took a toll on this furry girl. She developed a stress-induced rash, and slept peacefully only on her outings with volunteers, proving how necessary it was for her to find a home of her own.
However, Olivia and the rest of the staff didn’t lose hope. They kept advocating for Radiance, knowing that her ideal family might be just around the corner.
Turns out, they were right!
Finally, The Update Everyone Has Been Waiting For
After more than a year of waiting in her tiny kennel, Radiance and her caregivers finally received the update they had been waiting for all along!
A family reached out, asking to adopt this sweet girl. As it turned out, it was the perfect match!
“After over a year in the shelter, our sweet girl finally found her perfect match. Thank you to everyone who advocated for her, shared her story, cheered her on, and to the incredible family who opened their hearts to give her a home,” the California shelter wrote in an Instagram post.
Radiance finally has a nice home to live in, a beautiful family, and endless days ahead filled with exciting adventures. From now on, she no longer needs to worry about being desired. She’s more than desirable to her owners now. She’s family!
