It’s really awful for any dog when they lose their owner. A lot of them will end up in a situation that places them in the shelter or on the street.
In an instant, they are forced to scavenge and adapt to all the cruelty in life. Many struggle, but there is a glimmer of hope for all of them if rescuers give them a new chance.
Sometimes, dogs are abandoned by owners after moving out and left to starve. This is perhaps even worse because the pup is not even given a chance to survive.
It’s essentially how our story starts. When a concerned resident from Texas noticed a dog in the yard next to the house, she decided to do something about it.
Where Was His Owner?

After first spotting Chance walking around the neighbor’s yard, Stephanie could tell that something was off.
She never saw anyone walking in or out of the cabin where he lived. This alarmed her, so she took some food and water and gave it to Chance.
Upon seeing her, he immediately kept his distance, because he was not used to being around strangers. It’s likely that he spent his life in the yard and was isolated from everyone.

After realizing that she couldn’t just walk into someone’s yard, Stephanie called the SPCA in Texas and they responded.
One of their representatives came to check the place out, but he couldn’t do anything because he didn’t have a warrant to enter the property and take the dog.
It was basically a dead end for them, so Stephanie decided to do something on her own. She contacted the owner of the property who was leasing it out to Chance’s former owners.
Chance’s New Journey

The owner told them that the previous tenants were contacted and that they did not ‘leave the dog’ behing, which was strange.
Nevertheless, this meant that Stephanie now had permission to go on the property and take Chance with her. However, this would prove to be really difficult.
The dog was just really scared of them, and would hide under the cabin whenever he could. They would leave food in hopes that Chance would realize that they only wanted to help.

They would slowly get closer to Chance and he would even eat out of Stephanie’s hands at one point. Now, she and her husband thought it would be a good idea to pet him.
And what do you know? It worked. He warmed up to them completely and they would continue helping him until they were sure that he was ready to leave.
One day, Stephanie was going back home and she realized that Chance was actually following her all the way to the gate.
Who Is Nova?

At this point, she knew that he was ready to come with her so she let him follow her into the house. She placed him in the garage for the time being because she wanted him to get slowly accustomed to this new home.
One morning, she got up to check on Chance in the garage only to realize that there was another stray dog in there with him.
This shocked her at that moment, but she knew that this pup also needed help, so she was more than willing to give her the help that she needed.
The pup, now named Nova, adapted well to her new life, along with Chance. Since Stephanie also has 4 more dogs, they all got a chance to meet and socialize.
Because she loves them so much, Stephanie decided to keep Chance and Nova, but she also emphasized how important it is to adopt because a lot of shelters are full and they need all the help they can get.
