We tend to think that dogs only feel sad and stressed when they enter shelter systems, but that is not the case.
Dogs are wonderful furry creatures. They feel everything and connect with us in ways we couldn’t have imagined.
Recently, a dog named Forrest gave a glimpse of his own feelings when he arrived at his foster home and started sobbing.
His foster family couldn’t help feeling heartbroken because they knew the reason why he was sad.
Forrest’s Sadness
When Forrest was admitted to a shelter, he wasn’t alone. He arrived with his doggy friends whom he loved.
Since the pup wasn’t claimed by his family, he stayed in the shelter system.
Luckily, Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue in California pulled Forrest from the shelter and promised to find him a home.
Forrest said goodbye to his doggy friends who were transferred to other rescue groups. Without them by his side, the pup felt so lonely.
The staff comforted him and made him as comfortable as possible.
When Forrest moved into a foster home, he faced another big change.
While sitting in his new bed, the doggo looked around and felt abandoned all over again. His former doggy friends were not with him nor was the kind shelter staff.
The sudden realization left Forrest devastated, and he began crying.
“This is a dog separated from his family and his little canine buddies and mourning those losses,” Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue shared on Facebook.
Both his foster family and the California shelter weren’t surprised. They have seen other shelter dogs who felt sad after moving to a foster home.
The good people understood him and knew that Forrest felt like he had lost a home once again. They felt brokenhearted as they listened to his whimpers.
“He’s lost everything he’s known or loved and it’s hard not to feel his heartbreak right along with him,” the shelter added.
A New Start For The Pup
However, although Forrest didn’t know it at the time, moving to a foster home was the best thing that could have happened to him.
His fosters wished they could have mended his broken heart. They stayed by his side and gave him time to grieve, promising that things would start looking up.
“We wish we could give him back everything he’s lost but all we can give is love and the promise of a future where he never has to lose so many things all at once again,” Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue stated.
Slowly but surely, Forrest began settling in and discovering the beauty of life.
A family who was looking to adopt a dog fell in love with him and decided to welcome him into their life.
I’m sure that Forrest will continue thriving in his forever home.
The adorable pup will never have a reason to cry. From now on, he will only know happiness and love, and it is exactly what he deserves.
