Being around dogs teaches you a lot of things, but I think the most important thing of all is to expect the unexpected.
If you notice something odd about your pup’s behavior, it can be any number of things, which is why it’s important to react quickly to make sure it’s nothing serious.
There are also hilarious situations where your dog will behave strangely after they realize that they have done something wrong, so they pretend everything is fine.
And then, there are situations like the one in this story where an owner who recently took in a dog noticed something odd about her behavior only to realize something shocking.
They Didn’t See That Coming
When Joie-May and her boyfriend, Michael, first took in their new dog, Scottie, from a shelter in California, their life changed in an instant.
Before they even signed the adoption papers, the rescuers told them that she wasn’t spayed, so they will have to send her back just to take care of that later.
The couple agreed, and then they took her to start her new life in their home. They contacted the shelter staff for an appointment, but they delayed it because they were extremely busy.
Because they were concerned that she would go into heat, they thought that taking her to a veterinarian in California was an appropriate step, so they did.
The veterinarian told them everything was fine, but they still couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Then, more symptoms started manifesting. She acted like she was in heat, but none of the symptoms matched.
They were worried because they couldn’t get the rescue to settle on a date to get her spayed. However, they realized that wouldn’t be a problem because the truth revealed itself all of a sudden.
As it turns out, Scottie was actually pregnant, and she gave birth to three beautiful babies on their couch. This was a huge shock for them.
They Are Changing So Fast
Nobody expected this, and they weren’t prepared for it at all, so they had to react quickly. Everything needed to be prepared for these puppies and their mom so they could be comfortable.
They noticed that something was wrong with one of the puppies, named Ghost, as he was struggling for the first few days.
Sadly, he crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after. Even though this broke the owners’ hearts, they knew that they needed to continue helping Ghost’s siblings so that they could have a chance.
Pig was also struggling with putting on weight, so the main focus was on him while Gray was doing a lot better compared to her sibling.
The couple called the rescue where Scottie stayed and the staff there just told them that ‘they should have known’ about the dog’s pregnancy.
Nevertheless, Joie-May and Michael love these furry babies and will continue caring for them as much as they can.
They are hoping that the rescue will provide them some assistance as they most definitely need it, but even if that doesn’t happen, they will try their best to help this family.
The amazing couple actually found a loving home for one of the puppies and they decided to keep the other one. It’s good that their story has a good ending.
