Everyone knows that dogs who are rescued need to find a forever home as soon as possible. It’s great that they have a roof over their heads, consistent meals, and fun time with rescuers.
However, even they understand that is not a solution, which is why they are always working tirelessly to find a home for all of them.
There are problems, though. Some dogs just can’t find a home easily, and this can cause serious stress for them to the point that they actually try to flee from the shelter.
Usopp went through a similar situation after he was first sent to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, and his story is just heartbreaking.
This Is Just So Sad
After ending up at the shelter in Florida, Usopp struggled to adapt. Even though he was fine at first, time took its toll on him, and he became distressed.
To make matters worse for him, Usopp is not a very social dog when it comes to other humans. He is generally very fearful of everyone.
So, he struggles outside of the kennel and also hates being inside it. This is a big problem because it means that this sweet pup is permanently stressed out.
Whenever he ventures too far away from his kennel, he just shuts down and tries to crawl back to it, and that is just heartbreaking.
Lindsay Kaplan, who is a volunteer, captured a sad moment where she witnessed Usopp trying to jump on the walls of the kennel in order to get out.
He was unsuccessful, but this brief moment just showed everyone how bad his situation got, so Lindsay took her phone and recorded it.
Trying To Reach Out To Other People
After capturing everything on her phone, the volunteer from Florida posted it on her TikTok channel in hopes of raising enough awareness for Usopp.
She remains hopeful that someone might step in and give him a chance at a better life. As it can be expected, this heartbreaking clip got many views.
One person commented: “It seems cruel to let them go this long in a kennel, the behaviors and trauma they develop in this environment will be so hard to undo and will make it hard to safely rehome them.”
In situations like this, it’s important not to judge. We don’t know what the situation is at the shelter. I assume that they are doing their best to help him, but it’s just really hard sometimes.
Another person said: “What a cruel type of enclosure where he can’t see out. He is trying to see what’s going on around him and get the attention of people passing by.”
Again, context is important. Lindsay has stated that this pup is incredibly fearful of people just passing by, so this was a necessary measure to help manage his stress.
Lastly, somebody commented: “Please only adopt or foster this sweet boy if you are willing to put in the work to earn his trust and help him decompress. He’s a good boy, but he needs someone to meet him at his level. I know with kindess and patience he’ll be the best boy!”
At the very least, I am hopeful that this video will help him find someone who is patient and willing to work through his issues.
Finding a foster home would be an amazing first step. He just needs someone who wants to take him in. I sincerely hope that happens as soon as possible.
