When Jake, a volunteer dog walker in California, was taking a stroll along the edge of a canyon, little did he know that his day was about to change drastically.
He was enjoying his day when strange, echoing sounds coming from the other side of the path stopped him in his tracks. Wondering what they might be, he crossed the street and saw an abandoned pool with a shocking number of furry surprises hidden inside!
Thrown Out Of A Vehicle
Jake was utterly shocked when he realized that the furry surprises inside the pool were actually puppies – ten of them. As a volunteer with the City of Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, he knew exactly what to do.
Jake immediately contacted the Center that was down the road. Upon receiving the call, the staff arrived at the spot, transferring the puppies to the facility.
Given the circumstances, all ten babies, approximately three weeks old, were in good shape. The only problem was, their mother was missing.
The Center launched an investigation into a potential animal cruelty case and decided to check surveillance cameras. The video they found minutes later had left them truly shocked.
The footage revealed an owner deliberately throwing all ten puppies out of the back of his car.
“The incident happened at 2:30 am on July 24 when a suspect tossed the puppies out the back of his vehicle into the bushes next to the road leading to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center. Hours later, an animal services volunteer dog walker found the 3-week-old puppies in a vinyl puppy pool,” the California Center wrote in their website post.
Fortunately, the Center was able to locate the owner pretty soon. Soon enough, the officers were able to seize the mom dog and reunite her with her babies.
Needless to say, both the puppies and their momma were over the moon to be together again.
Thanks to the dedicated work of the California Center, the momma, named Holly, and her babies were sent to a foster home with an experienced foster.
To see the entire family finally enjoying themselves in a spacious yard instead of a tiny pool was beyond rewarding. After all this time, the dogs were given a decent chance at a new life, and they were more than happy to take it!
Waiting For A Forever Home
For now, mom Holly and her puppies: Chip, Caramel, Mint, Maple, Chocolate, Cookie Dough, Butterscotch, Cookies N Cream, Ripple, and Coffee will stay in foster care until ready to be adopted.
In the meantime, the Center urges everyone not able to care for their pets to be responsible and surrender the animal to a proper facility instead of abandoning them.
“This disturbing incident serves as a reminder that when residents are faced with the decision of whether or not to relinquish an animal, MVAS has options,” the Animal Center concluded.
Hopefully, this case will serve as a reminder to love, respect, and be responsible for our four-legged friends, no matter the circumstances.
