Whenever I see a dog being abandoned by their owner, I often assume it must be the result of extreme neglect. I felt the same when I saw the picture of Andre, and later I learned his devastating story.
It turns out, we sometimes make hasty assumptions without digging deeper into the whole story.
And, the truth is, Andre’s story was anything but one of neglect. This sweet five-year-old Pittie mix was left in a Georgia park just before a storm, and the reason explained in his owner’s note shattered my heart into pieces.
Abandoned Due To Heartbreaking Circumstances
When Tara Borelli, from Georgia, saw the post about a dog found tied in the park with a note pinned on his collar, she couldn’t contain her heartbreak. Andre, a sweet Pittie mix, was left there by his owner just moments before a big storm, and Tara knew she couldn’t just let it go.
She drove for miles to the park to take him in at least overnight, only to have his owner’s note break her even more.
“ ‘Hi my name is Andre. My dad is facing homelessness. I am a really good dog. My dad’s heart is broken. And no shelter will take me.’ These are the heartbreaking words that Andre’s dad tied to his beloved dog,” Tara wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook post.
After a brief introduction, the two entered Borelli’s car, hoping to get home safely. However, they were already caught in the middle of the storm. Tara lost traction a few times, which eventually caused another car to bump into her.
Just when she thought she and Andre would have to spend the night in her car, three kind men who saw her ordeal helped her get back on the road. Within hours, Tara and her new furry friend were home.
Andre got a nice meal and a safe place to be. Tara, who provided him with a temporary foster home, felt utterly sorry for the pup and his owner, wishing he would soon resolve his situation. Although she couldn’t find the way, she wanted to make sure Andre’s dad knew his dog was safe.
“To his dad, I hope you know that we are showering Andre with affection, and will do everything we can to make sure the rest of his days are filled with love,” she wrote.
Andre Needs A Second Chance
Thanks to Tara, Andre truly got a second chance at life. He was timely saved from a dangerous storm and brought into a loving home where he decompressed, learned routine, played, and cuddled.
Sadly, due to her senior dog not being a match with Andre, she was forced to seek another solution for him. Tara registered the pup with Fulton County Animal Services in Georgia, hoping his story would reach potential adopters soon.
Andre truly deserves a second chance. Unfortunately, the shelter environment doesn’t contribute to his well-being, and this pup’s cheerful spirit is slowly shutting down.
“He’s a sensitive dog and after a week-and-half has back at the shelter the light is fading from his eyes and extreme kennel stress is setting in,” Tara in one of her latest posts on Instagram.
What he truly needs is someone who will see his adorable nature and offer him the loving, permanent home he dreams of. The reality is, he’s still too heartbroken to endure another heartbreak, and he definitely deserves a chance in a caring, stable environment.
