Oklahoma Shelter Dog Was Almost Euthanized, But Then A Surprising Test Made Sure He Got A Chance

We have talked many times about how hard it is for some pups to get a chance at a new life, but some dog breeds have it even worse.

For whatever reason, there is a stereotype against any bully breed, especially if it’s a dog with black fur. People are just not interested in adopting them.

They assume that these pups are aggressive without even having met them. Anyone who has owned one can testify and say these stereotypes are false.

Like with people, pups are a product of their environment, and some of them may appear aggressive when they have been abused by people their whole lives. That doesn’t mean all of them are like this.

When rescuers from Oklahoma first took in Ozzy, they knew it was going to be a tough journey for him, but they never suspected that he would be completely overlooked by everyone.

Ozzy’s Story

After meeting Ozzy for the first time, the rescuer working at the Oklahoma Animal Shelter immediately saw that he was a sweet and loving pup.

They knew that people would overlook him, but they were hoping that some adopters would be willing to see past his appearance and give him a chance.

However, as time went on, I guess those chances dwindled, and Ozzy’s time was running out. They couldn’t find a family for him, and he was scheduled to be euthanized.

The rescuers did whatever they could to find a family for him. They raised awareness about his story one more time. And, just as all hope seemed to be lost, a potential adopter asked around about Ozzy.

They were over the moon about this news. If it had gone on a little longer, Ozzy wouldn’t have made it. He was almost euthanized.

The potential adopter wanted to know only one thing: how was he around cats? The rescuers quickly filmed a video where Ozzy could be seen reacting to a cat’s presence.

Ozzy only sniffed the cat for a second and backed away. He wanted to make the cat feel comfortable, and that was a good sign that he passed the test.

Shortly after this, his new family adopted him, and he is now living at his forever home in Colorado with five other rescue animals.

Reactions To Ozzy’s Story

After the rescuers uploaded a video of them testing Ozzy, they were surprised by an overwhelming response.

Some people showed concern at how the cat test was being performed while others shared their thoughts and experiences about Ozzy and dogs like him.

One person commented: “I spontaneously took a black pitbull in off the street almost 20 years ago. She turned out to be good with cats and overall wonderful companion. I still miss her.”

Well, sometimes, that is all that it takes. Every dog just wants a chance at a better life and we have the opportunity to give them that.

Another person said: “So sad that any animal should have to face a “euthanasia” walk!! Horrible. So glad that at least this one pup was saved.

Yeah, it’s heartbreaking to just think about it. I can’t even imagine how difficult it would be for the rescuers to do this. It’s one of the most difficult things to do.

Lastly, somebody said: “We have a dog named Kova because of the cat test. She’s a brown/black pit. We love her so much. She was in there for almost her whole life, about a year.

It’s always really good to read other people’s experiences with similar situations. It’s good to know that Ozzy’s story was not the only one with a happy ending.

In the end, this one simple test showed his new parents that he was a very kind and patient dog. I am happy to see him get to live the life he always deserved.
