The joy a dog brings to a human is sometimes truly difficult to describe. However, to reach that point, it is often necessary to first endure the most challenging moments.
Experienced rescuer Caitlin Evers knows this better than most. She is the founder of Caitie’s Foster Fam, a rescue organization based in Houston, Texas. Through her years of work, she has saved countless animals and fostered more than 280 dogs.
So, she did not hesitate to act when she received a call from a shop owner about a stray dog forced to give birth on the street during a heavy downpour.
Yet, even she was shocked and heartbroken upon seeing the dog’s condition.
From Dark Clouds To Sunny Day
As posted in a TikTok video by @caitiesfosterfam, this Basset Hound, later named Bentley, had given birth over the weekend in front of the shop, with employees finding them on Monday morning.
In that video, Caitlin also wrote that numerous storms had hit Houston, Texas that weekend, leaving the mama dog and her newborns in a terrible state. This woman was utterly heartbroken the moment she saw them.
When she arrived at the shop, there were eight puppies with their mother.
However, in another TikTok video, Caitlin explained that Bentley had actually delivered eleven babies, but three were no longer alive when found due to the harsh conditions.
This made Caitlin’s heart weep, but it also motivated her to do anything she could for this Basset Hound family. She promptly took them, one by one, into her arms, gently placed them in her car, and drove them to her home.
After an immediate bath to address a severe flea infestation, they could finally relax in a clean, warm bed.
Seeing them sleep peacefully in soft blankets after all they had endured was a genuine balm for Caitlin’s soul.
Tragically, in the following days, one puppy crossed the rainbow bridge, which deeply saddened Caitlin.
Yet, this is why the big-hearted woman did all she could to secure a better future for the remaining litter, and they thrived more with each new day.
After several days, life for this Basset Hound family became a real blessing as the sun finally rose after dark clouds and heavy rain.
Bentley, along with her babies Ford, Lincoln, Mustang, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, and Rover, as Caitlin named them, were all moving toward a brighter future.
Not that they didn’t deserve it after everything they had been through.

Yes, we all should be truly grateful for everything this woman with a big heart did. Although we emphasized the heroism of the mother and the entire Basset Hound family throughout the story, none of this would be possible without this good soul.
