How would you react if your surprise birthday present was the one thing you wanted in the whole wide world?
Daniel Totos, from Adelaide, Australia, couldn’t hold back his tears when he realized that a gift for his 25th birthday was actually an adorable German Shepherd puppy.
The Best Birthday Present
The heart-melting video of Daniel unboxing his birthday present went viral on TikTok, reaching more than 7.1 million views and more than 1.3 million likes so far.
Daniel’s wife, Ashley Totos, 24, organized the surprise. She also shared the video on Facebook and said that for as long as she could remember, the dog had been “the one thing in the whole world” Dan wanted.
“After dealing with my wedding planning over the last 3 years, and giving me the wedding of my dreams… thought my St. Bernard could wait… and he deserved something a little special for his birthday this year.”
The video begins with Daniel opening a box that he thought contained an Apple Watch. “Oh my goodness, this is fancy,” he said, thinking the box would reveal a fancy watch.
However, to his surprise, there was no watch in the box, but a small brown dog collar. Clearly bewildered, Daniel commented on how the box was empty and contained only a collar.
Still very puzzled, Daniel started calling for his wife, Ashley, who was hiding with his surprise.
The moment Ashley entered the room holding the cutest German Shepherd puppy, Daniel buried his head in his hands and started crying.
He couldn’t believe what was happening.
He had to sit down since he couldn’t believe that his wife was holding the puppy he wanted for so long.
Ashley placed the puppy in Daniel’s arms, who was still crying while everyone was saying “Happy Birthday!”
“Oh my God, you’re kidding?! Is this real?”, said Daniel, still very surprised and crying.
His heartwarming reaction brought tears to everyone in the room, including Ashley. She said, “Seeing his reaction made me feel so whole — just knowing that he was so happy — this was all he ever wanted, and I was so happy that I could do that for him and make him that happy.”

This video is a great example of how no matter how old you are, crying over puppies is and will always be okay.
It just shows how puppies always bring enormous happiness, and we are all so happy that Daniel finally received the gift he wanted all his life.
There is no doubt in my mind that this fluffy puppy will be loved very much.
Monty’s Update
The puppy’s full name is Montgomery Totos, but they call him Monty. He is much bigger now, but he is still the cutest pup ever.
Oh, and he’s the best big brother to his hooman.
He might have lost the privilege of being the “only child”, but he adjusted excellently. Monty was born to be a big brother, protector, and best friend.
