The life of a stray dog can be changed in just a few minutes, and it takes a kind heart to realize that.
Whether it’s food, taking them to the nearest shelter, or a simple pat on the back, all these things leave long-term effects on dogs in need. And, they definitely matter!
Scott and Halley, a couple from California, understood this very well. So, when the opportunity to save one stray pup in need presented itself, they didn’t waste any time.
His Past Was A Mystery
One day, Scott was cycling through the forest, miles from the closest civilization. At one moment, he spotted a strange creature coming toward his direction. Startled by what he had just seen, he decided to stop for a moment and see what it was.
As it turned out, he spotted a black dog!
Unfortunately, this mysterious pup immediately ran away from Scott, preventing him from extending him a friendly hand.
As the roads were closed for cars that day, Scott and his wife, Halley, decided to come to the scene the very next day.
“He turned around to help but the pup had run away and the roads were closed so we couldn’t bring a car there to get him,” Halley wrote on Instagram.
As they searched high and low for the dog, they noticed nervous movement in the nearby bushes right next to the road. Halley realized it was him as soon as she spotted a pair of fearful eyes peeking from there, but still reluctant to come out.
The couple spent some time showering the dog with kind words and encouragement. When that didn’t completely work out, they used delicious treats to lure him out.
Minutes later, he finally gave in!
Naturally sweet, gentle, and with a pair of the most captivating eyes, the pup wrapped around Halley and Scott’s legs as if he were begging for help. The good news was he didn’t have to beg. He was already saved…he just didn’t know that yet!
He Stays In The Family
Halley and Scott brought the dog home, and he adapted to the family right off the bat! He was so grateful to finally be able to sleep in a comfy bed and run around freely without worrying about where his next meal would come from.
Initially, they weren’t sure what to do about their newest addition to the family, but then Halley remembered. Her in-laws from Colorado have wanted to adopt a dog for so long, and this was an ideal opportunity.
After a few Zoom calls, the family was more than happy to meet the dog. It took Halley and Scott a 15-hour drive from California to Colorado, but in the end, it was all worth it!
His new owners were more than thrilled to see him!
“When they saw him, they were so excited, especially his mom. His parents decided to name him Bonez. He’s warmed up to them pretty quickly,” Halley told The Dodo.
Now, Bonez is as happy as a dog could be. He has a spacious yard all to himself, hoomans to love him, and endless adventures ahead of him.
To make things even better, Bonez will stay in the family, so Scott, Halley, and their dog, Patches, can visit him all the time.
Once a stray boi lost in the forest in the middle of nowhere, Bonez now has everything he has ever dreamed of, all thanks to kindness.
